This is the year that my life changed completely. In giving birth to my son, I fell more in love than I ever have before, with the most beautiful little person I had ever seen, and with my husband becoming a father. It was our eighth year in business, and because of my extended maternity leave we photographed less weddings, but surprisingly photographed more family and newborn sessions than ever before. I am genuinely grateful for these sessions that helped to feed my creative needs.
And if I’m being completely honest, I struggled with the balance of becoming a Mother, and expecting to be able to run my own business while taking care of a newborn. Throw in an entire month where Jaime was in Rio photographing the Olympics, and I’ll admit it wasn’t my most confident or productive year. But in my moments of doubt, struggle and uncertainty one thing always stayed the same: my gratitude for being able to do what I love.
I am grateful I was able to be one of three witnesses to an intimate winter ceremony, to cry-laugh with a couple while they said their heart-felt vows, to celebrate a second marriage on the fourth of July, to scurry around mountaintops and witness the best intro dance ever, to see a groom be so in love with his bride that it brings him to tears all day long, to help families document their love as a keepsake and reminder in hard times, to watch couples I photographed as bride and groom become parents, to rekindle relationships, to see littles grow another year older, to meet new families and create artwork for their walls, to get my knees a little bit dirty crawling around with kiddos, to experiment more with food photography, and to take many a scenic drive to lull my little one to sleep with my camera in tow.
Cheers to 2017 – May there be more smiles than frowns, and many memories documented with love.
