It seems my blog posts recently have been very photo-centric which makes me even more excited for this post. Two days ago, after a long hot day working in front of my computer I decided to take a break and fill my head with creativity. So I headed to my local Barnes & Noble to flip through wedding and fashion magazines to inspire me. And guess what I picked up in the Young Readers section? My first book layout with my name in it. I cannot help but jump for joy. Call it conceited or lame, but I am just so proud to be a part of this amazing company.
When I was a child I loved to read Choose Your Own Adventure Books. I remember curling up on the front porch of our family camp and reading the books over and over until there were no more possible endings. So when Chooseco contacted me to do book layout for “Return to Haunted House” I was so ecstatic to be able to work on something that was a staple of my childhood.
Here is my disclaimer. I did not write this book and I did not create the illustrations. I helped to put it all together, making the text flow, and working on a few illustrations in Photoshop. Below are two of my favorite pages.
I love the type around the spaceship and the monkeys in the background. Look at that flow! And the kitty was a little too “Cheshire Cat” so I was asked to give it a mustache. Look at that upper-lipped wonder (stylized similar to Cousin Matt’s!)
At this time I would like to thank everyone at Chooseco that I worked with, I am a lifetime supporter of creative books for children!
