Wallingford Vermont Wedding by Letter10 Creative

This blog post comes with a big huge asterisk attached to it. ***I was not their official photographer.***
That said, I look forward to what their photographer, Greg Geren, captured. But I simply could not help myself – what does a professional wedding photographer do at a wedding? Well, take pictures of course!

This past weekend my little brother got married. It was a beautiful day with gorgeous weather, love and merriment. I was honored when Heather asked me to photograph she and the girls getting ready. She was simply beautiful (inside and out!) At the reception we took them for a few relaxed portraits, which I loved because it was so “them,” but I think my favorite images are from their first dance. I just love how both of their eyes twinkle when they look at each other, and that they just seem so darn happy. G+H, I wish you many years of adventures together, and may every day be as beautiful as your wedding day. Happy (almost) one week anniversary!

Vermont Winter Wedding at Inn at Mountaintop in Chittenden, VermontOur 2013 wedding season has officially started. Ohhhhh yeah! And what a beautiful day and a beautiful couple to start our season off right. I could go on and on about all the wonderful details of this wedding, but I’ll save you time and assume you’re here to see the pictures. :) The bride was such a trooper, hiking around in the snow for almost an hour with us, and they had THE BEST first dance we’ve ever photographed. Add in an ice cream and candy bar, several rounds of irish car-bomb drinking, an adorable flower girl and Dad doing “the turtle” (we captured it for a second time!) and you have two very happy photographers. Thanks so much for inviting us to be part of your beautiful day, G+J!

Burlington Free Press Vermont Wed Bridal Cover

Yesterday the Burlington Free Press published an insert into their Sunday paper called “Vermont Wed Style.” I had purchased an ad in the publication, and also submitted some images for use and was excited to see which (if any) photographs they chose. So when I first laid eyes on the pub I was ELATED to see my image gracing the cover. THE COVER! Holey Moley! But soon my excitement turned to extreme disappointment when I realized I was not credited for my photograph. Bah humbug.

Can I take a step back for a moment?
This blog took me hours to write. I kid you not. I have quite a few mixed emotions going on, and want to stay professional, while being grateful (and giddy!), but also taking a stand in saying that I do not support posting photographs without proper credit and permission. Most would call it stealing. I have to speak up for what I believe is right… right??

I don’t want to seem ungrateful. I am, without a doubt, honored that four of my images were placed in this publication. And three of the images were credited properly. I understand “stuff” happens, and that mistakes are made. But I was less than happy with the lackadaisical responses I received at first from the BFP. And as I wrote to them, “I understand mistakes happen, it’s what people do to handle those mistakes that makes the difference.” So after I suggested they should have offered to print an apology, guess what I was given? An email from her manager offering to reprint my ad and a written apology. Twice. What’s done is done, and that will have to do.
